Hello from 40,000 (30,000? Idk) feet! This past week has been a whirlwind in the life/work/training departments.
Against what seemed like impossible odds, we embarked on our summer trip to Italy (!!). Something we started planning over 3 years ago. I was sure something would go wrong (sick kid, canceled flight, etc) but here we are! Or rather, we will be there by the time I send this. Iām looking forward to sharing my favorite place with my kids, but also a week in a foreign country with a 4 & 6 year old also feelsā¦hard. I know we are very very lucky that itās happening and am just going to do the best I can with running. This week is about š and š· and š¦ and walking lots on cobble stone streets and hopefully I will fit in a few runs, but if not, thatās what the rest of the fall is for!
So! Weāre packed! I finished a few work projects (will link to them in a future newsletter ā theyāre running related)! And had a good week+ of training. Hereās how it shook out:
Saturday, August 20: 9.25 miles including 15 x 1 minute @ threshold (6:21 avg), 2 minutes @ moderate (7:25 avg). A bit of a grind, but the miles flew by. Also this was Evelynās 4th birthday party so I feel like that should count as a workout in itself š
Sunday, August 21: 15 miles, easy conversational paceĀ
Monday, August 22: 5 miles easyĀ
Tuesday, August 23: 7.5 miles w/ stridesĀ
Wednesday, August 24: 10 miles including 4 x 1000m @ 5k pace (~6:02/mile), 2 min jog, 600m @ 5k pace (~5:59/mile), 3 minute jogĀ
Thursday, August 25: rest day, blessĀ
Friday, August 26: 8.5 miles on the treadmill with kids with 5 x 20ā hill strides toward the endĀ
Saturday, August 27: 12 miles with 30 minutes at marathon pace (6:57 avg)
Plus a few ~20 minute strength training sessions sprinkled in on hard days. Thatās a solid week for me! I didnāt sleep the best because of stress, life, etc. but otherwise feeling very good. Please do a wellness check after this comingĀ week šĀ
Philly marathon goal, as promised: 3:10 ish !!Ā
On to the next week, amidst this adventure!
